Our Story
Garrett and his sponsored child Mary.
In the summer of July 2011 while visiting his sponsored children through Compassion International, Garrett Wong, through divine appointment, met Bably Aleke.
Garrett and Bably outside the missions compound where they met.
Bably, then a security guard for a YWAM (Youth With A Mission) compound located in Mombasa, escorted Garrett to a nearby beach to pray. It was there, on the missionary compound, that Garrett and Bably began to form a friendship and collaborate on ideas for building the Kingdom of God.
Born from a poor family in the western part of Kenya, Bably confessed his need for Christ in 2000. Five years later, Bably received a calling from God to begin a ministry of his own to reach the local people in his surrounding community. The scripture verse which inflamed his heart for ministry was Ezekiel 22:30:
“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.
This desire to stand in the gap and show people that reconciliation with God was possible only through means of Jesus Christ became the cry of Bably's heart. He decided to name his ministry after this desire, G.A.P., which signifies answering the call to stand in the G.A.P. through the Gospel and Prayer.
Garrett, who came to Kenya seeking God's activity with resources in hand, provided the divine partnership Bably had been praying for. The two teamed up to begin ministering to the local community but by the time their ministry together began to take off it was time for Garrett to return to the U.S but not without plans to return.
In the summer of 2012, Garrett returned to Kenya. Alongside his efforts, his best friend Luis Contreras, joined the G.A.P. team. They again returned in the summer of 2013, this time with Garrett's wife, Mei-Ye. In their time together they have seen the G.A.P. ministry grow exponentially from the first meeting with Bably. With God's provision, they hope to continue to make a greater difference as they continue to deepen their partnership in hopes of living out God's plan for their lives.
